We strive to build resiliency, restore and/or improve functioning, and support the integration of the person served in the community. Our philosophy is that whether ones mental health challenges are chronic or temporary, they are often associated with other social, emotional, physical, and environmental problems. With this awareness, we strive to promote change that will enhance and promote responsibility for life choices, increase the individual's sense of self-worth, and build mastery of behavioral changes, by addressing the needs specific to each person served while honoring their strengths, preferences, and abilities. M.P.A Group continues to promote empowerment, independence, wellness and recovery, with dignity and respect for all persons served.
Dialectical Behavioral Therapy (DBT)
Dialectical Behavioral Therapy (DBT) is a treatment intervention to help individuals with severe and chronic mental health disorders. This evidence based treatment was designed by Marsha Linehan, phd., in the early 90's. DBT is focused on reducing negative behaviors that cause misery and stress while increasing behaviors that lead to reaching a life worth living. This treatment consists of four core skills: Core Mindfulness, Distress Tolerance, Emotion Regulation, and Interpersonal Effectiveness. DBT is unique in the fact that it uses a treatment team approach combining individual therapy, group skills training and phone coaching. If you would like more information about DBT, please contact Kristen Kolberg, L.M.S.W. at 989-667-9661.
